Innovative Teaching Series : Sharing Flexible Learning Teaching Experiences
(October 28, 2020)
In the spirit of collegial learning, CITL brings you “Sharing the Flexible Learning Teaching Experience” this October 28, 2020. Worthwhile topics will be shared by some of our passionate and innovative instructors who rose above the challenges of the new modality of teaching and learning. We, in CITL, believe that each of us learns best from each other, and this Innovative Teaching Series is that opportunity to have us all sitting in one circle, to listen and share what could tremendously improve our instruction. Let’s take this moment to feed our inner motivations and get ourselves inspired to do beyond what we thought are our limits. Who knows? You might be sharing your teaching journey next time around.
Facilitating Assessments of Learning Using Alternative Learning Applications
(September 9-22, 2020)
The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning has been reaching out to departments and campuses that needed assistance as to how their faculty members would facilitate assessments through alternative learning applications. CITL’s aim is to cater to the faculty’s concerns regarding students’ accessibility of their assessments. We are happy to serve our dear colleagues on this aspect.
CiTL Trains at CHED Region 10 Webinar
Last July 2020, the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office 10 conducted a webinar that aimed to support the transition of the teaching force, from varied Region 10 Private and State Universities, toward Flexible Learning. The week’s worth of seminar was given via Facebook Live Streaming, and the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines, being one of the organizers and contributors of the webinars, had the team of experts from Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning tackle on vital topics particularly Constructive Alignment and Redesigning of the Course Syllabus, Designing Assessments of Learning, Creating the Course Guides and Modules, Crafting the Rubrics for Assessing Student Performances, Employing Critical Thinking Strategies, and Ways of Providing Effective Feedback to Students. Because the live sessions were public, instructors and professors from renowned universities of other regions of the country have found their way into the webinar. The audience sent their positive responses and words of gratitude to CHED RO 10 and to the speakers for providing timely and relevant information, instrumental to adapt to the new normal.

(June 5-8, 2020)
As instructors, maintaining presence online with Flexible Learning can be quite a challenge, but with the right tools, one can create engaging resources that communicate effectively to the learners. Powerpoint is a very common tool for presenting lectures, but have we truly explored its other great features to create presentations with our personal touch? Engr. Aileen Sieras, CiTL’s Program Head for Innovative Teaching Series, shared to the faculty less explored features of the application that will enable them to incorporate voice over narrations and their actual discussion videos while students would view the slides, and guest speaker, Dr. Maria Angeles D. Hinosolango, OSA Director, shared great tips and reminders on how to create effective, engaging and well-designed Powerpoint presentations that would leave learners wanting more. Play the video to witness the highlights of the webinar sessions.
Flexible Learning Webinar 4
(July 1, 2020)
What makes Flexible Learning an engaging method of learning is not its inclination to rely on technology. In CITL, we believe that technology is only secondary to pedagogies, and this is why we invest primarily on developing our faculty to become competent, creative and effective in their teaching techniques and strategies online, then we boost their effeciency in using technology as a tool to deliver their instruction.

Flexible Learning Webinar 5
(July 16-17, 2020)
To make Flexible Learning a substantial and worthwhile experience for the learners, the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning made sure that instructors were reminded to design activities that both activate and sustain students’ critical thinking skills. In another light, because students need to constantly feel their instructors’ presence, CITL also provided a workshop on how instructors could create video lectures in the convenience of their mobile phones.
