Former MUST, MOSCAT launch USTP

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY. — The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) community and personalities from the industry and government agencies celebrated as one during the grand launching of the newly amalgamated institution on March 28, 2017 at the Cagayan de Oro Campus.

The USTP Grand Launching program was the highlight of the three-day celebration from March 27-29 at the CDO campus which featured the ceremonial changing of banners from the former Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST) and the Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology (MOSCAT) to USTP and the ceremonial preparation of the USTP Time Capsule led by the University President Dr. Ricardo E. Rotoras, USTP officials and honored guests from the industry and government sector. The same ceremonies were observed at the USTP Claveria campus on March 29, 2017.

The event that started at around 4:00 PM in the University Gymnasium was graced by the presence of Hon. Rufus B. Rodriguez, one of the authors of the USTP Charter; Hon. Cong. Maximo B. Rodriguez Jr., USTP Board Member and Representative of the 2nd District of CDO; Mr. Brian Levey, Education Director of USAID Phil.; Hon. Edgardo R. Masongsong, Administrator of National Electrification Administration; and Vice Mayor Emmanuel L. Jamis, representative of the Office of the Mayor of the Municipality of Alubjid. They all expressed their greetings to the University for reaching another milestone in their congratulatory messages.

The night’s celebration started with religious leaders giving their blessings to the University through the amalgamation of the former MUST and MOSCAT. Ecumenical prayers were led by Fr. Lino A. Macatol II, Sheik Macacuna “Amin” Macalantong, and Rev. Ricardo C. Yañez Jr. who implored guidance for the University officials in propelling USTP toward advancements.

Adding to the festive atmosphere were video presentations about the USTP, its campuses and how it came to be over the years that passed. The USTP CDO Arts and Culture showcased an acapella number by male members of the Sanghimig Chorale, a couple of lively dance presentations by the Gintong Amihan Dance Troupe (GADT), and a Disney production number by the Sanghimig Chorale.

The celebration culminated with a bang as fireworks light the evening sky in a 20-minute pyrotechnic display sponsored by the USTP Federation of Alumni Associations.
