The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Balubal, Misamis Oriental (USTP Balubal), through the Office of the Guidance and Counseling Services, Supreme Student Council, and Office of Student Affairs, successfully conducted the Kamustahan Program for Graduating Students on May 11, 2026, at the USTP Balubal Grounds. Carrying the theme, “A Heart to Look Back and a Hand to Serve,” the activity served as a meaningful recollection and inspirational gathering for fourth-year students preparing to transition from university life to professional and community engagement.
The program officially opened with an invocation led by Mr. Harold John A. Payla, followed by opening remarks from Ms. Karren L. Belarmino, Guidance Counselor, who emphasized the importance of gratitude, resilience, and service as students move toward a new chapter in life.
One of the highlights of the event was the inspirational talk delivered by Dr. Dennis A. Apuan, Acting Campus Director, entitled “From Graduates to Alumni: A Commitment to Lead, Serve, and Inspire.” In his message, Dr. Apuan encouraged graduating students to uphold the values of leadership, excellence, and social responsibility as future alumni of the university.
The session on alumni opportunities and engagement was facilitated by Mr. Harold John A. Payla, Alumni Association Vice President, who discussed the importance of maintaining strong connections with the university and participating in alumni initiatives that support student development and community service.
The program also featured a heartfelt sharing of insights and participant reflections facilitated by Mr. Mark Anthony M. Bactong, Office of Student Affairs Head. Students shared their experiences, realizations, and aspirations as they reflected on their academic journey and future goals. As part of the reflection activity, students were also encouraged to write their three personal commitments to serve the campus and the community, symbolizing their gratitude and willingness to give back to the institution that helped shape their lives. The activity concluded with a photo session attended by participants, student officers and volunteers, hosts, and speakers, symbolizing unity, gratitude, and hope for the future.
The Kamustahan Program successfully strengthened the emotional, social, and professional preparedness of graduating students while fostering a deeper sense of belonging and commitment to service. The event also supported the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by promoting holistic student development and emotional wellness.
