USTP Balubal showcases student innovation in three-minute presentation competition

Innovation and creativity took center stage as the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Balubal, Cagayan de Oro (USTP Balubal) successfully conducted PIT @ 3: Three-Minute Innovation Presentations on May 15, 2026, at the Multipurpose Building, 2nd Floor, USTP Balubal. The event gathered students from different academic programs to present innovative ideas aimed at contributing to education and industry development.
The activity formally opened with inspiring messages from Acting Campus Director Dr. Dennis A. Apuan, who emphasized the significance of innovation in shaping future professionals. This was followed by a message from the Head of Research, Innovation, and Extension of USTP Balubal, Ms. Mary Jean B. Apuan, who encouraged students to continue developing creative solutions and embrace their potential as young innovators.
Designed to provide students with an avenue to present innovative concepts in a concise and engaging format, the event challenged participants to communicate impactful ideas within a three-minute presentation.
Outstanding student presentations were recognized across various academic categories.
For the General Education category, the winners were:
1st Place – DJ Steve Dawonhay
2nd Place – Zwayranelle Dianne Baja
3rd Place – Arianne Marie Llagas
For the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology category, the winners were:
1st Place – Cherry Mae Torrepalma, Vea Dalangin, and Cherylane Paclar
2nd Place – Arianne Marie Llagas and Francis Jake Bastasa
3rd Place – Louie Jay Pisos
For the Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education category, the top innovators were:
1st Place – Almera Bangki
2nd Place – Egen Abrasado
3rd Place – Zwayranelle Dianne Baja
Meanwhile, in the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSA) and Bachelor of Agricultural Technology (BAT) category, the winning teams were:
1st Place – Lawrence Ching, Jheddie Corsine Sevilla, and Anna Sophia Obrero for Farm Rise
2nd Place – Cherry Mae Talili and Lerdemar Oyanon for Stat Race
3rd Place – Joshua Maputol for Nutrisense
The official announcement of winners and awarding of certificates were conducted during the Monday Flag Raising Ceremony on May 18, 2026, at the Balubal Covered Court. The recognition ceremony celebrated the students’ creativity, hard work, and innovative thinking while highlighting the University’s continued support for academic excellence and student achievement.
Through activities such as PIT @ 3: Three-Minute Innovation Presentations, USTP Balubal continues to strengthen its culture of innovation and student engagement by providing opportunities for learners to transform ideas into meaningful solutions that respond to real-world challenges.
