USTP Balubal, PCA Region 10 forge partnership to advance coconut development

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Balubal, Misamis Oriental  (USTP Balubal)  formally strengthened its commitment to agricultural innovation and sustainable community development through the ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Region 10 at Admin Building, USTP CDO, May 26, 2026.  The partnership marks the beginning of a collaborative initiative aimed at establishing a Coconut Nursery at the USTP Balubal campus to support the Coconut Hybridization Program and Mass Coconut Planting Program. Through this undertaking, both institutions seek to contribute to the growth and resilience of the coconut industry in Northern Mindanao.

The ceremonial signing was attended by key officials from both institutions, including USTP System President Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, PCA Region 10 Regional Manager Mrs. Yvette B. Guanzon, and USTP Balubal Campus Director and Center Head of the Center for Advanced Plant Science and Phytotechnologies (CAPSP), Dr. Dennis A. Apuan. Also present were representatives and affirmants from PCA Region 10, together with USTP Balubal section heads and personnel from the research and extension offices who expressed support for the initiative and its long-term impact on agricultural advancement and community engagement. The event concluded with the signing of a commitment wall, symbolizing the shared dedication of USTP and PCA Region 10 in strengthening the coconut sector through innovation, research, and collaborative action

More than establishing a nursery, the partnership envisions creating a center for research, extension, and community empowerment that will provide high-quality coconut seedlings and generate opportunities for local farmers and stakeholders. Through this initiative, USTP Balubal continues to demonstrate its role as a catalyst for innovation and sustainable agricultural development in the region.
