The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Balubal, Cagayan de Oro (USTP Balubal) celebrated the graduation of 107 students during its 3rd Commencement Exercises for School Year 2025–2026, held on June 18, 2026, at Grand Caprice, Limketkai Center, Cagayan de Oro City. The ceremony brought together graduates, faculty members, university officials, families, and distinguished guests in a celebration of academic excellence, perseverance, leadership, and achievement.
The program opened with an interfaith prayer led by Bro. Bobby Pagusara, Ustadz Abdul Rashid Hashim, and Pstr. Ryan Lactao, who offered prayers and blessings for the graduating class as they embarked on a new chapter of their lives. Serving as the commencement speaker was Atty. Regine Beatrice T. Rodriguez, Chief of Staff of the Office of Second District Representative Cong. Rufus B. Rodriguez. In her address, she reminded the graduates that they leave the University not merely as degree holders but as trailblazers entrusted with the responsibility of creating positive change. She encouraged them to carry their USTP identity with pride, blaze trails that create opportunities for others, bring honor to their families, and inspire future generations of Kagay-anons. Emphasizing the importance of service and leadership, she challenged the graduates to use their education not only for personal success but also for the betterment of their communities and the nation.
The ceremony also recognized graduates who demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. Of the 107 graduates, 42 earned Latin honors, reflecting USTP Balubal’s commitment to academic excellence. The Bachelor of Agricultural Technology (BAT) produced 20 Latin honor awardees, comprising nine Magna Cum Laude and 11 Cum Laude graduates. The Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLED) produced 19 Latin honor awardees, including eight Magna Cum Laude and 11 Cum Laude graduates. Meanwhile, the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) produced three Cum Laude graduates.
Representing the graduating class, Mr. Lawrence G. Ching, a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the Bachelor of Agricultural Technology program, delivered the valedictory address. Drawing inspiration from the Higa-onon word Mabaluy, which means “to become,” Ching reminded his fellow graduates that commencement is not merely the culmination of years of study but the beginning of a lifelong journey of transformation. He emphasized that graduation signifies a continuous process of becoming better individuals, professionals, and agents of positive change, encouraging his fellow graduates to embrace future opportunities and challenges with courage, humility, and determination.
The ceremony concluded with the singing of the USTP Hymn, symbolizing the graduates’ gratitude to their alma mater and their enduring commitment to uphold the University’s values of excellence, innovation, and service.
As they crossed the commencement stage, the 107 graduates of USTP Balubal carried with them not only academic knowledge and professional competencies but also the spirit of resilience, leadership, and lifelong learning nurtured by the University. Their graduation marks the beginning of a new chapter as they pursue meaningful careers and contribute to the advancement of their communities, the region, and the nation.
