Arts in Motion: USTP Oroquieta celebrates Cultures and Talents

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta) showcased a vibrant spirit of creativity and tradition, bringing together students, faculty, and staff. The event, filled with artistic performances and cultural activities, highlighted the diverse talents of the academic community while honoring the rich heritage of the Philippines. It took place at USTP Oroquieta on February 28, 2025.

A Display of Talent and Passion
The day began with a lively performance by first-year students who took center stage to present their dance routines as part of their Physical Education (PE) curriculum. Their energetic and well-choreographed moves captivated the audience, setting an enthusiastic energy for the rest of the day.
After an exercise session, the faculty and staff took the spotlight, showcasing their talents in various artistic expressions. From soulful singing and dynamic dancing to engaging comedy skits and dramatic role plays, the faculty’s participation highlighted their passion and talents.
Traditional Filipino Games and Quiz Bee
In the afternoon, the festivities continued with “Laro ng Pinoy,” a set of traditional Filipino games that brought out camaraderie and joy among participants. The faculty members competed in games such as “pokpok palayok” at the covered court, while students engaged in friendly matches behind the building. Simultaneously, a thrilling Quiz Bee tested the knowledge of participants, adding an intellectual twist to the day’s celebration.
Cultural Variety Show
The much-anticipated variety show commenced on stage, transporting the audience on a journey across the Philippines and narrating the stories behind traditional dances and songs. Through captivating performances, the show highlighted the rich cultural heritage of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, featuring indigenous tribes such as the Subanen and paying tribute to iconic cities like Cebu and Oroquieta. These performances not only entertained but also educated the audience about the country’s vibrant traditions and history.





Recognizing Excellence and Participation
An awarding ceremony was held to honor the participants and performers. Tokens and certificates were presented in recognition of the dedication and effort of everyone who contributed to the success of the event, held in celebration of National Arts Month 2025.
As the event came to a close, participants left with renewed pride in their heritage and a deeper connection to the arts. Indeed, the celebration was a testament to the unifying power of the arts, fostering appreciation for Filipino culture and inspiring future generations to keep the artistic flame alive. This vibrant display of talent and creativity resonated deeply with the mission and vision of USTP, which aims to advance scientific and technological knowledge while promoting holistic development and innovation within the academic community.
