Participants listen to the speakers from USTP, MSWD and PNP
The College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) in Claveria, Misamis Oriental rolled out the first activity under its Extension Program dubbed as CAS SUPPORTS which stands for Socially Uplifting Program, Projects and Opportunities for Rural Transformation and Sustainability.
The activity was in collaboration with the Local Government Unit through the Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) Office. It was held at the covered court of Barangay Sta. Cruz, Claveria, Misamis Oriental on March 18, 2021.
Aligned to the Social Work Program Offering of the college, the said activity highlighted the Women’s Month Celebration with the theme ‘Juana Laban sa Pandemya: Kaya!’ through the conduct of an orientation seminar on RA 9262 , otherwise known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (VAWC).
The extension program is aimed for rural transformation, economic growth and sustainability
Dr. Nueva D. Salaan, Dean of CAS, warmly welcomed all participants, speakers from the MSWD and Philippine National Police (PNP), and representatives of the Barangay Council.
Ms. Maricar Y. Valdez, CAS faculty and USTP Claveria Guidance Counselor, presented and expounded on the representation of each of the letter of CAS SUPPORTS, stressing that the said CAS extension program in general is aimed at contributing towards rural transformation, economic growth and sustainability.
The salient parts of RA 9262 was discussed by Ms. Sheila Mae P. Tagle, a registered social worker and concurrently the head of the MSWD office. It was followed by a discussion on Filing of Complaint which was discussed by the Women & Children Protection Desk Focal Person.
A total of 92 participants from the barangay registered for the activity. The open forum generated more queries and active participation from the participants.
The activity ended with the distribution of certificates to the invited speakers and all participants by Prof. Serina R. Jumuad, CAS Extension Focal Person, together with the representatives from the extension unit.
In closing, Kagawad Michael Y. Batistis of the Barangay Sta. Cruz delivered a note of thanks in behalf of Barangay Captain Wenifredo M. Isidro.
