Championing Sports Excellence: USTP Claveria honors Pickleball Team Winners

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Claveria, Misamis Oriental (USTP Claveria) celebrated the impressive accomplishments of its Pickleball team, which brought home multiple awards. The competition was held at SM Uptown, Cagayan de Oro City, on March 9 – 10, 2025. This achievement showcased the remarkable skill and sportsmanship of USTP Claveria’s student-athletes.
USTP Claveria’s Team Achievements:
- School Division Men’s Champions – Zachary Jon Panganiban (BS in Agriculture–Animal Science, 4C) & Gian Paolo Acao (Bachelor of Technology in Horticulture Management, 2A)
- School Division Women’s Champions – Alyxes Dennise Romanos (BS in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, 2A) & Khim Margareth Alpar (BS in Hospitality and Management, 1B)
- School Division Mixed Doubles 2nd Runner-Up – Khim Margareth Alpar (BS in Hospitality and Management, 1B) & Jones Dave Pante (BS in Environmental Engineering, 3A)
- Open Men’s 1st Runner-Up – Gian Paolo Acao (Bachelor of Technology in Horticulture Management, 2A) & Zachary Jon Panganiban (BS in Agriculture–Animal Science, 4C)
This remarkable success would not have been possible without the steadfast support of USTP Claveria Chancellor Dr. Renato O. Arazo and Director of Sports Dr. Richmund Palma. Their continuous encouragement and belief in the athletes have been instrumental in the team’s journey.
The team also extends its gratitude to SM Uptown and the Professional Pickleball Association of the Philippines for organizing an outstanding tournament that promotes the growth and development of the sport.
The journey continues for the USTP Claveria Pickleball Team as they set their sights on future competitions. With this victory as a stepping stone, the team remains committed to training, improvement, and bringing further glory to USTP Claveria.
The recognition of these talented athletes reflects USTP Claveria’s commitment to fostering excellence not only in academics but also in sports. The celebration concluded with an awarding ceremony during the 3rd Monday Convocation of the university, held on March 17, 2025, at the University Student Lounge—highlighting the values of teamwork, dedication, and perseverance across all areas of university life.
