The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta) successfully concluded its community outreach program, in partnership with the Misamis Occidental Science and Technology High School (MOSTHS) of the Department of Education, Oroquieta City Division (DEpEd Oroquieta), held from August to September 2025. The two-month collaboration equipped faculty members and selected students of MOSTHS with the latest knowledge and hands-on experience in creative technology automation, the Internet of Things (IoT), and robotics.

The program marked a significant milestone in advancing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in Misamis Occidental. The initiative was led by the Head of the Department of Information Technology, supported by a team of expert trainers from USTP Oroquieta, including Ginbert A. Fernandez, Jo Roxan M. Borata, Ray An J. Quiñon, Kilven Mark P. Badiang, Lutherly Q. Bongcawel, Arnel M. Mangga, and Marites D. Habagat. They were assisted by a group of dedicated Student Volunteer Assistants: Demrek Tajos, Roland Manales, John Lloyd Tigtig, and other IT students, who provided essential technical support throughout the program.

Over the course of two months, TechBridge successfully achieved its three main goals. The first phase, which took place in August, aimed to enhance the skills of MOSTHS faculty and students through intensive workshops on the latest digital tools and automation trends. The second phase focused on applying the Design Thinking Framework to develop Internet of Things (IoT) and robotics projects. Key modules, such as “The Smart Connection: IoT Meets Robotics” and “Wire It Up: Exploring the World of Electronics,” provided participants with practical, real-world insights into modern technology, encouraging an engaging and collaborative environment that fostered innovation and teamwork.

The successful completion of TechBridge highlights USTP’s commitment to community development and educational excellence. Through programs like this, the university continues to empower local institutions, ensuring that the next generation of STEM learners in Misamis Occidental is well-prepared to thrive in the fast-paced world of technology and automation.
