Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (BSNAME) is a 5-year program with a strong on systems engineering and engineering design. The program teaches the students the knowledge and provides experiences of the complete process of conception, design modeling, implementation, and operation of boats, ships, marine installations, and other complex systems together with deep theoretical knowledge in related subjects such as mechanics and management.

Program Educational Objectives

PEO1: Graduates are thought to be globally competitive leaders observing the standards of the local and international classification societies and upholding the ethical conduct of the multidisciplinary aspect of the profession.

PEO2: Graduates are competent naval architects taking into account the needs and demands of the community and its integration to the socio-economic, cultural and environmental aspects of the maritime industry.

PEO3: Graduates are abreast with the new and emerging ideas in design innovation through continuing professional development and research leading to entrepreneurial opportunities.

Program outcomes

A graduate of Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (BSNAME) program will be able to:

  • Apply Knowledge of mathematics, science, naval architecture, marine engineering, and design to solve engineering problems
  • Design and conduct experiments as well as analyze and interpret data
  • Design floating vessels, its fittings and powering to meet the required specification within realistic constraints
  • Ability to function on multi-disciplinary terms
  • Identify, formulate, and solve naval architecture and marine engineering problems
  • Understand professional and ethical responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively using English language
  • Understanding the impact of naval architecture and marine engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental and societal context
  • Engage in lifelong learning and keep abreast with development in the field of specialization and/or profession
  • Understand the impact and implications of various contemporary issues in the global and social context of the profession
  • Use techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for naval architecture and marine engineering practice
  • Know and understand engineering and management principles as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multi-disciplinary environment
