To promote environmental conservation and address climate change, the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Balubal (USTP Balubal) has partnered with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 10 (DENR-10), represented by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Misamis Oriental. This partnership was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on May 29, 2025, at the Balubal Covered Court in Cagayan de Oro City.

The event was led by Dr. Dennis A. Apuan, Acting Campus Director of USTP Balubal, who expressed optimism about the promising collaboration between the academic and environmental sectors. Distinguished guests included Atty. Xandra Ysabelle T. Ebdalin-Bacus, Chief of the Technical Services Division at PENRO Misamis Oriental; Mr. Lynbert D. Sancho, Development Management Officer II; and Mr. Henry L. Halina Jr., Chief of the Conservation and Development Section at PENRO Misamis Oriental.

This collaboration aims to enhance cooperation in environmental conservation and rehabilitation efforts, improve climate change mitigation strategies, and align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, it seeks to leverage USTP’s research and outreach capabilities for the implementation of collaborative environmental projects and activities.

The MOA lays the groundwork for innovative environmental action by combining academic excellence with public service, positioning USTP Balubal and DENR Region 10 to better protect ecosystems and empower communities.

The project embodies a shared commitment to building a greener and more sustainable future for Misamis Oriental and the world as a whole.
