The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Balubal, Cagayan de Oro (USTP Balubal), formally recognized its outstanding students during the Reading of Honors held on March 30, 2026, at the Barangay Balubal Covered Court. The event was conducted as part of the campus’ regular Monday Flag Raising Ceremony, led by the non-teaching staff and attended by students, faculty, and administrative personnel.

Campus officials present during the ceremony included Campus Director Dr. Dennis A. Apuan, Ms. Bernalyn Grace Alvarez, Head of Academic Affairs, and Mr. Jason Maglupay, Campus Registrar. They were joined by program chairs Ms. Jeraldine Leal-Giva and Mr. Jumar Amores, as well as BTLED faculty member Ms. Jen Marie Dullente.

A total of 180 students were honored for their academic performance during the semester. Of this number, 85 were from the Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLED), 48 from the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT), 30 from the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Precision Agriculture, and 17 from the Bachelor of Agricultural Technology. The recognition was carried out by program and year level, with honorees called in sequence.

The ceremony was further enlivened by intermission performances from BSIT students as part of their Foreign Language (Nihonggo) course. Among the highlights was the Japanese cultural dance “Ebikanics,” a popular exercise routine in Japan characterized by lively, playful movements and an upbeat rhythm. The performance reflected themes of health, joy, and creativity—values deeply embedded in Japanese culture.

The students also presented a J-Pop dance number, showcasing contemporary Japanese music and choreography that energized the audience.

Further enriching the program were song performances featuring well-known Japanese tracks, including Stay With Me by Miki Matsubara, Silhouette by Kana-Boon, famously featured in the anime Naruto Shippuden, and Fuyu no Hanashi from the anime Given. Students likewise delivered short monologues in the Japanese language, which were translated for the audience, demonstrating both their linguistic skills and cultural appreciation.

These performances served not only as entertainment but also as a practical showcase of the students’ learning and engagement in their Nihonggo class.

The activity underscored USTP Balubal Campus’ continued commitment to academic excellence, cultural awareness, and the holistic development of its students.
