The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Balubal, Cagayan de Oro City (USTP Balubal), reaffirmed its commitment to collaborative and data-driven agricultural development as it joined key government agencies and institutional partners on February 24, 2026, at the City Depot Conference Room in Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City, for a coordination meeting to align strategies for the implementation of the city’s Centralized Agricultural Information System—an integrated platform designed to consolidate agricultural data for improved governance and service delivery.
Among those who attended from USTP were faculty members and designated campus officials: Mr. Jumar P. Amores, Program Chairman of the BSIT Program; Mr. Mark Anthony Bactong, Head of Student Affairs and Services and Agriculture Faculty; Ms. Angela Katrina Dongdong, Research Coordinator and Agriculture Faculty; and Architect Joseph Pernites, Campus Architect of USTP CDO.
The meeting, spearheaded by the Agricultural Productivity Operations Office (APOO), was led by Engr. Bernie A. Daba Jr., Officer-in-Charge – City Agriculturist. He emphasized the urgency of consolidating fragmented agricultural data into a unified and reliable platform to improve planning, service delivery, and investment decisions. Engr. Daba noted that integrating data from agriculture, fisheries, livestock, markets, and enterprises will enable faster, evidence-based responses to the needs of farmers, fisherfolk, and agripreneurs while strengthening overall governance.
USTP Balubal actively contributed to discussions on data-sharing protocols, system interoperability, and institutional responsibilities, highlighting the role of academic institutions in providing technical expertise, research support, and innovation to ensure the platform’s sustainability.
Other agencies present included the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10; Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 10; Department of Trade and Industry; City Management Information Systems and Innovation Department; City Veterinary Office; University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines – CDO; Cagayan de Oro City Price Coordinating Council; and Cagayan de Oro Economic Enterprises and Business Development Administration.
Through this initiative, APOO strengthens interagency coordination and advances a centralized, data-driven system aimed at ensuring long-term growth and resilience for Cagayan de Oro’s agriculture sector. With USTP Balubal’s active engagement, the city reinforces the vital role of academic institutions in shaping innovative, evidence-based solutions that empower local communities and drive inclusive agricultural progress.
