USTP boosts international IP capabilities with advanced program in France

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), through Dr. Venessa A. Garcia, Director of the Technology Promotions and Commercialization Office (TCPO), participated in the Advanced Certificate Training Program on Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer, and Licensing held in Strasbourg, France from June 23 to 28, 2025.

Organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Academy in collaboration with the Center for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI) and supported by the French National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI-France), the training program brought together IP and technology transfer professionals from across the globe.

Selection for this prestigious program required completing a four-week advanced course on IP Management, which ran from April 28 to May 25, 2025, and culminated in a rigorous final examination. Only those who passed this phase qualified for the in-person training in Strasbourg.

Designed to deepen expertise in intellectual property and technology transfer, the program assembled participants from 18 countries, including Argentina, Botswana, Brazil, Ghana, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, Pakistan, the Philippines, Tunisia, Turkey, Vietnam, Uganda, Australia, France, Switzerland, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia. The training aimed to equip these professionals with advanced skills in negotiating IP licensing agreements and developing effective technology transfer strategies.

Dr. Garcia’s participation underscores USTP’s growing commitment to fostering a robust and globally competitive intellectual property and innovation ecosystem.

Through this international engagement, USTP further strengthens its role as a leader in technology transfer and commercialization in the region. This program’s insights and best practices are expected to enhance the university’s IP initiatives and contribute significantly to advancing the country’s innovation landscape.
