The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Cagayan de Oro (USTP CDO) Department of Architecture achieved a remarkable milestone as its faculty architects secured all podium finishes in the Camp Capistrano Master Development Plan Design Competition, with winners formally recognized on April 6, 2026, at the Camp 1st Lieutenant Vicente G. Alagar in Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City. All four winning entries were composed of USTP CDO faculty architects, marking a significant achievement for the University and the architectural community in Northern Mindanao.

Police Brigadier General Christopher N. Abrahano, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 10, personally led the recognition of the winning teams. The competition, initiated by Police Regional Office 10, aimed to develop a comprehensive, functional, and sustainable master plan for Camp General Nicolas T. Capistrano in Gusa, Cagayan de Oro City. By engaging professional architects through a formal design competition, the agency sought to promote excellence in public infrastructure planning.

Representing both the academic and professional practice, the USTP faculty participants are active members of the United Architects of the Philippines – CDO Bay Area Chapter. Their success highlights the strong integration of teaching and professional experience, reinforcing the quality of architectural education delivered by the University.

Leading the competition was the champion team headed by Ar. Jiffer John Taala, with members Ar. Clark Ian R. Maestrado and Ar. Rachelle Ann M. Israel-Maestrado.

The first runner-up award was secured by the team of Ar. Kia Joyce S. Ongayo, with Ar. Kay Lorenz C. Octobre and Ar. Helen S. Agulay.

The second runner-up title went to Ar. Aimeelou Jean M. Demetrio, together with Ar. Angeleth P. Monsanto-Lucar and Ar. Christopher C. Cabusas.

Completing the sweep, the third runner-up award was earned by the team of Ar. Antonette N. Gregorio, with Ar. Kristine G. Ramay and Ar. Omar T. Salise.

This achievement underscores the expertise and competitiveness of USTP CDO Architecture faculty, who continue to excel in both academic and professional practice. It also serves as a strong inspiration for students, demonstrating the real-world impact and excellence of their mentors in the field of architecture.
