The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental (USTP CDO), through its Extension and Community Relations Division (ECRD), successfully conducted the 2026 In-House Review for Research-Based Extension Programs on October 26, 2026, at Mallberry Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City, carrying the theme “Research Meets Community: From Evidence to Impact.” The activity highlighted the University’s commitment to translating research findings, scientific knowledge, technology, and innovation into meaningful interventions that respond to actual community needs. It provided a platform for presenting and evaluating extension initiatives anchored on evidence-based solutions, innovation, responsiveness, and sustainability.
The In-House Review brought together external evaluators with extensive expertise in research, extension management, education, and community development. The panel was composed of Dr. Jiemalyn B. Beyond the project presentations, the activity also highlighted the Sagisag Awards, USTP’s systemwide recognition program for exemplary research-based extension programs and projects. Organized around the University’s 15 Research Niches, the awards recognize initiatives that go beyond conventional seminars, training sessions, and outreach activities. They emphasize the translation of research, science, technology, and innovation into practical community solutions, with particular attention to measurable outcomes, technology adoption, community benefits, and sustainability.
The review also featured poster evaluation, allowing the evaluators to assess and appreciate the presented initiatives through visual presentations of their research foundations, implementation strategies, and community contributions. The evaluation process aimed to identify exemplary practices, recognize outstanding initiatives, and provide recommendations that could further strengthen the quality and effectiveness of the University’s extension programs.
More than a venue for assessment and recognition, the In-House Review served as an opportunity to strengthen institutional accountability, encourage continuous improvement, and reinforce collaboration among academic institutions and community partners. The insights and recommendations from the external evaluators will help guide the enhancement of future extension initiatives and ensure that research-based interventions remain responsive to evolving community needs.
Through this undertaking, USTP CDO reaffirms its commitment to making research more meaningful beyond academic outputs and institutional boundaries. By connecting research with practical applications and community priorities, the University continues to advance its mission of transforming knowledge into solutions that create lasting social impact.
