The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) marked a significant milestone as students from the Department of Technology Communication Management (DTCM) of USTP Cagayan de Oro (USTP CDO) secured First and Second Place in the Best Paper category at the 4th FRAMEWORK Asia-Pacific Communication Conference, held on March 26–27, 2026.

Organized by Far Eastern University through its Department of Communication and hosted by Cavite State University – Indang Campus, the conference carried the theme “Troubleshooter or Troublemaker: Parameters, Recalibration, and Trajectories in AI-Aided Communication and New Media.” The event gathered scholars and researchers to explore the evolving role of artificial intelligence in communication and new media.

First Place was awarded to the study titled “Giya: A Digital Communication Tool for Streamlining Non-Clinical Healthcare Communication in Outpatient Services as Baseline for Enhancing Patient Experience in a Public Hospital.” The research was authored by Rave M. Arao, Justin D. Balaman, Elgy G. Dianito, Kent Joahs G. Escabarte, Hannah G. Gumban, Disney Zcalcy Pabayo, and Kristine P. Valenzuela. The study was presented by Mr. Kent Joahs G. Escabarte on behalf of the group.

Second Place was conferred on the study “eSulti: A Knowledge Management-Driven Digitalized Barangay Feedback System as Basis for Program Creation and Enhancement for Active Citizenship.” The paper was authored by Jhezierae Rhya Enif B. Alcantara, Carl D. Velez, Jane Ignacia S. Abragan, Ralph Matthew S. Aclao, Amira R. Al Hamadani, Julmar A. Buyoc, and Pamela C. Cuizon, with Ms. Jhezierae Rhya Enif B. Alcantara serving as the presenter.

Both studies were conducted under the guidance of thesis adviser Ms. Angeli P. Monsanto, a DTCM faculty member of USTP CDO, who supported the teams throughout the research process—from conceptualization to conference presentation. Her mentorship ensured clarity, direction, and alignment in the studies, contributing significantly to the teams’ success.

Also representing USTP at the conference was Mr. Tyronne Battung, a DTCM faculty member, who served as a discussant.

With more than 50 papers presented across various categories, USTP students brought pride to the University, joining other institutions such as the University of the Philippines Mindanao, which secured Third Place.

FRAMEWORK is a bi-annual, peer-reviewed journal publication featuring scholarly works on communication, new media, and social change in the Asia-Pacific region. The conference complemented this platform through a series of discussions centered on artificial intelligence and communication.

This achievement reflects USTP’s commitment to advancing research and innovation in communication and digital technologies. It also underscores the University’s role in developing solutions that enhance healthcare access, strengthen community engagement, and support inclusive governance—aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
