USTP CDO innovators bag 2nd and 3rd place at Philippine Startup Challenge 2025

Team HAN.AI and Team BYTE Q from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Cagayan de Oro (USTP CDO) earned top honors at the Philippine Startup Challenge Region X 2025, held on October 28, 2025, at the Northwestern Mindanao State College of Science and Technology (NMSCST) in Tangub City, Misamis Occidental.
Out of 60 entries narrowed down to 10 finalists, Team HAN.AI, from the Data Science Department, claimed second place. The team is composed of Gabriel Mar A. Ramirez, Kevin Lloyd B. Baul, and Marianne Charisse E. Cañete, with mentorship from Mr. Jhun Brian M. Andam, a faculty member of the Data Science Department, who provided invaluable guidance and support throughout their journey.
Meanwhile, Team BYTE Q, composed of Paul John Roxas, John Christian Odtohan, Jerry John Layug, and Hans Ira Hilotin from the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (CET) Incubation Program, secured third place. Their mentor, Mr. Jirby M. Laniton, Coordinator of the Curriculum and Training Unit of CET, guided the team through the competition.
HAN.AI is an AI-powered assistive tool aimed at transforming medical consultations by streamlining documentation and improving efficiency. On the other hand, BYTE Q (QVision) features smart glasses designed to help visually impaired individuals navigate and understand their surroundings through real-time AI-powered audio feedback.
This recognition highlights USTP’s dedication to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. Through initiatives such as the CET Incubation Program, the University continues to empower young innovators to turn ideas into impactful solutions for society.
