The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Cagayan de Oro (USTP CDO) held the 1st Mindanao Area Geodetic Engineering Congress (MAGEC) 2026 on February 23 – 25, 2026, at the Dr. Ricardo E. Rotoras (DRER) Memorial Hall, USTP CDO. The MAGEC 2026 marked a historic milestone for the Geodetic Engineering community in the region.

The congress brought together four (4) Mindanao-based institutions offering the Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering (BSGE): USTP CDO, Western Mindanao State University – Zamboanga City, Caraga State University, and St. John Paul II College of Davao, making it the first-ever area-wide Geodetic Engineering Congress in Mindanao. The event stood as a significant step toward strengthening academic collaboration, professional engagement, and regional unity among future and practicing Geodetic Engineers.

It also featured a rich lineup of activities designed to promote learning, innovation, and excellence in the field of Geodetic Engineering. The activities included technical lectures and discussions led by professionals from the academe and industry, providing participants with insights into current practices, emerging technologies, and real-world applications of geodetics.

Moreover, the event featured a series of exciting and intellectually stimulating competitions, such as the Geodetic Engineering Quiz Bowl, Map Making Competition, and surveying-related challenges, allowing students to showcase their skills, teamwork, and technical expertise.

As the host institution, USTP CDO was honored to spearhead this pioneering initiative, setting the foundation for future Mindanao-wide Geodetic Engineering congresses and strengthening the professional network of Geodetic Engineers across the region. The 1st MAGEC 2026 was not just an event—it was the beginning of a tradition that celebrated collaboration, competence, and commitment to advancing Geodetic Engineering in Mindanao.
