USTP CDO student wins DICT’s Cybersecurity Awareness Video Competition 2025

Ailjunn G. Katipunan, a third-year Bachelor of Science in Technology Communication Management (BS TCM) student from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Cagayan de Oro (USTP CDO), was named the regional winner of the 2025 Region 10 Cybersecurity Awareness Video Competition organized by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). The announcement was held on June 26, 2025, via the official Facebook page of DICT Region 10. The competition carried the theme “Protect Yourself from Rising Threats of Technology in False Information,” highlighting the importance of cybersecurity education and awareness in this digital world.

Mr. Katipunan’s winning entry showcased the creativity and commitment of the trailblazers to raising awareness. Together with his team, he led as the writer and director of the winning entry. His team members include Luis Vincent Cabillar, Farah Dice Gaid, Hannah Aslayan, Ray Salvino, Rhea Bargamento, Ver Gumaga, Frankline Adaro, and Gab Cabalde. His work was mentored and consulted by Mr. Anthony Ray Lao, faculty of the Department of Technology Communication Management, who helped secure this championship.
This regional competition is part of the ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Awareness Video Competition 2025, a large-scale initiative that seeks to feature the role of the youth in promoting cybersecurity awareness and responsible online practices. As the Region 10 winner, Ailjunn will advance to the national level, where he will compete next to winners from other regions across the Philippines. The national winner will then represent the Philippines as its official entry to the ASEAN-Japan level, with prizes of up to 2,000 USD or 112,000 in pesos.

His success not only brings pride to USTP but also shows the university’s commitment to social responsiveness and transformational leadership, actively supporting efforts that raise awareness and drive innovation for the betterment of the community.
