USTP CDO students win Hack4Gov 2025 regional championship

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Cagayan de Oro (USTP CDO) proudly congratulates Team PWNDESAL, declared champions at the recently concluded Regional Level of Hack4Gov 2025, held on November 10, 2025, at Chali Beach Resort in Cagayan de Oro City.

Hack4Gov, a nationwide cybersecurity competition organized by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), simulates real-world cybersecurity challenges, including identifying system vulnerabilities, testing for security risks, and securing computer networks. 

Team PWNDESAL is composed of the following students:

  • John Rolly Dioca, BS in Information Technology
  • Jaynel Patiarba, BS in Information Technology
  • John Richard B. Alix, BS in Computer Engineering
  • Hernel Niño C. Juanico, BS in Data Science.


Their coach, Mr. Matthew R. Maulion, Assistant Professor of the Data Science Department, shared that the team’s exceptional performance in various cybersecurity challenges outshone 11 other groups from across Northern Mindanao.

With this victory, Team PWNDESAL will represent Region 10 in the national finals of Hack4Gov 2025, scheduled for December 9, 2025, in Metro Manila.

This achievement highlights USTP CDO’s growing expertise in cybersecurity, engineering, information technology, and data science, and reflects the university’s commitment to equipping students with the skills, innovation, and readiness needed to face real-world challenges.
