USTP CDO wins 1st Runner-Up at IEEE Smart Mobility Hackathon 2025

Team Coral Vision from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Cagayan de Oro took 1st Runner-Up at the IEEE Smart Mobility Hackathon 2025. The event took place from September 2 to 4, 2025, at the Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology in Iligan City.
The team showcased their project, “Smart Unmanned Submersible Rover for Coral Health Monitoring.” This solution focuses on protecting marine ecosystems by making it easier to monitor coral reef health using robotics and sensor technology.

Representing the IT Department of USTP CDO, the team included Noel Jhumel Blanco, John Lemar Gonzales, and John Michael Angelo Binonggo, under the guidance of their coach, Engr. Jay Noel N. Rojo.
The IEEE Smart Mobility Hackathon 2025 gathered talented innovators from around the country to create technology-driven solutions for mobility, sustainability, and environmental issues. Team Coral Vision’s success highlights USTP’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
