USTP Claveria bids farewell to Dr. Rosalito A. Quirino

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Claveria, Misamis Oriental (USTP Claveria) paid its deepest respects to the late Dr. Rosalito A. Quirino, 4th President and 1st Chancellor of USTP Claveria, through a solemn Necrological Service and Tribute held on September 7, 2025, at the USTP Claveria Multi-Purpose Hall. 

The event, themed “A Life Well Lived: The Legacy of Dr. Rosalito A. Quirino,” brought together family, friends, colleagues, alumni, students, and partner agencies who gathered to honor a leader remembered not only for his academic achievements but also for his profound dedication to service and community.

The ceremony began with a prelude of solemn music, followed by the opening prayer by Pastor Madelvine M. Badilles of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church that set a tone of reflection and gratitude. Meanwhile, Chancellor Dr. Renato O. Arazo welcomed the attendees, recalling Dr. Quirino’s transformative leadership and unwavering commitment to the university’s mission.

The USTP Music Team uplifted the spirit of the congregation with heartfelt renditions of “Goodness of God” and “Amazing Grace.” Messages of comfort were shared by Pastor Carino L. Talao of the Light Bearer Missionary Baptist Church, each reminding the community of faith, service, and remembrance.

Honoring a Legacy

The highlight of the program was the Necrological Tribute, where heartfelt messages reflected the immense impact of Dr. Quirino’s leadership.

Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, USTP System President, honored him on behalf of the entire university, noting his foresight in advancing academic programs and institutional growth.

Dr. Vanessa V. Ascaño, VP for Finance and Administration, emphasized his prudent leadership and commitment to accountability, she well noticed while working with Dr. Quirino when he served as the OIC President of USTP System. 

Vice Chancellors Dr. Dennis T. Yamuta and Dr. Eric Randy R. Politud, shared testimonies of his guidance and contributions.

Faculty representatives Mr. Casimero L. Icalina (College of Agriculture), Mr. Eddie S. Corpuz (College of Arts and Sciences), and Prof. Grace Vergie P. Nillama (College of Engineering and Technology) spoke of their impact on the academic community.

Special musical numbers, including a vocal performance by Mr. Carlos Ian H. Mendoza and a tribute song by Dr. Ronelo G. Cablinda with South Life, further enriched the program.

Retired administrators and partners also paid their respects. Dr. Juan A. Nagtalon, the 2nd president of the former MOSCAT, and Dr. Elizar M. Elmundo, former VPAA of USTP Claveria, remembered Dr. Quirino as a mentor and an innovator.

A Lasting Memory

An audio-visual presentation, “A Life Well Lived: The Legacy of Dr. Rosalito A. Quirino,” prepared by the Office of the Chancellor, traced his journey from humble beginnings to becoming a cornerstone of USTP Claveria’s history.

The ceremony also featured the awarding of tokens and recognitions: the USTP Blaze Award for Legacy in Public Service, presented by the USTP HRMO; honors from FASPA (presented by Dr. Allen Rhay B. Bayantong), FAI (presented by Prof. Grace Vergie P. Nillama), and the MMPC (presented by Dr. Alexander L. Ido).

Students and youth leaders also took part in honoring Dr. Quirino. Mark Vincent Sermotin, USG Federation President, delivered a tribute message, followed by a tribute song from the USTP Music Team and an interpretative dance by the KALASI Dance Troupe. A flower offering symbolized the community’s collective gratitude.

Representing the alumni, Ms. Ellaine C. Edio spoke on behalf of batchmates and schoolmates, recalling fond memories of their mentor. Also, Mr. Callao, a former classmate paid tribute to the late Dr. Quirino. The most emotional moment came when Ms. Faith Humber Q. Mante, Dr. Quirino’s daughter, delivered a heartfelt tribute, sharing her father’s love and devotion as both a family man and an educator.

The program closed with a prayer for the family led by Ms. Maricar Y. Valdez, a closing prayer by Pastor Carino L. Talao, host pastor of Light Bearer Missionary Baptist Church, and final announcements from Dr. Nueva D. Salaan, who served as master of ceremonies.

A Legacy to Remember

Dr. Rosalito A. Quirino will be remembered as a visionary leader, a mentor to countless students and faculty, and a champion of education and public service. His life and legacy will continue to inspire the USTP Claveria community and future generations to pursue excellence with integrity, humility, and compassion.
