The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Claveria, Misamis Oriental (USTP Claveria) attended a significant consultative meeting, focusing on the institutionalization of the Agriculture and Fisheries Resources, Research, and Extension for Development Network (AFRREDN). The primary agenda of the meeting was to review the draft Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which outlines the network’s implementing guidelines, aimed at improving agricultural and fisheries development in the region. The meeting was held at the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office-X (DA RFO-X) Conference Room in Cagayan de Oro City on March 7, 2025.

Key Highlights of the Meeting:
1. Designating Representatives: Each member institution was urged to designate a permanent and alternate representative, preferably those actively involved in their institution’s Research for Development (R4DE) functions. These representatives are tasked with officially representing their institutions in the various meetings and initiatives led by the network.
2. Active Participation: Institutions were encouraged to actively support and participate in a range of activities, including regional network policy setting, developing regional R4DE agendas, prioritizing actions, formulating regional plans and programs, preparing proposals, implementing activities, and conducting monitoring and evaluation efforts. Furthermore, institutions are expected to contribute to the conduct of capacity-building activities.
3. Contributions to R4DE Committees: Member institutions are expected to join and actively contribute to the different R4DE Committees of the Network based on their respective mandates and capacities.
4. Resource Sharing: Each institution is tasked with providing complementary human and physical resources to support collaborative R4DE initiatives. This includes expertise, knowledge products, equipment, facilities, and experimental areas, all essential for successful collaborative efforts.
