USTP Claveria participates in the 38th AACCUP Annual National Conference 2025

In a bid to enhance quality assurance (QA) in higher education, the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Claveria, Misamis Oriental (USTP Claveria), together with USTP Cagayan de Oro (CDO) and its satellite campuses, participated in the 38th AACCUP (Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines) Annual National Conference and General Assembly 2025 held from March 5-7, 2025, at Marikina Polytechnic College, Sta. Elena, Marikina City.

The event gathered nearly 1,000 participants from various State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) across the Philippines, all united in their commitment to advancing QA practices within their institutions. Representing USTP Claveria at the conference were Dr. Argin A. Gulanes (Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Services, and Newly-Trained Accreditor), Dr. Maribel S. Tizo (Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology, and Senior Accreditor), Dr. Nueva D. Salaan (Director of the Academic Management Services Division, and Senior Accreditor), Prof. Ramil C. Pagon (Director of Arts & Culture, and Newly-Trained Accreditor), Dr. Charly G. Alcantara (Dean of the College of Agriculture), and Ms. Ruby D. Tagocon (Director of Quality Assurance and Accreditation).

The three-day event featured an array of insightful plenary sessions aimed at providing participants with the tools and knowledge necessary to strengthen QA mechanisms within their respective institutions. Among the highlights were six plenary sessions on a variety of critical topics:

Plenary Session 1: Building Strong Partnerships for Quality Assurance – A dynamic panel discussion featuring MQA International Director Muhammad Hasfarizal Bin Kamaludin, TUP President Dr. Reynaldo P. Ramos, CNU President Dr. Daniel A. Ariaso Sr., and BukSU President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol.

Plenary Session 2: PASUC President’s Time – Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, President of PASUC, highlighted the ongoing challenges and emerging opportunities for SUCs across the nation.

Plenary Session 3: Achieving QA Milestones through Collaboration – Presented by Assoc. Prof. Aphichart Rodchanarowan, Ph.D., from Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand, this session emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving QA milestones.

Plenary Session 4: Advancements in Adaptive Learning Technologies – Pathway to QA – Dr. Juan Robertino “Robbie” Macalde, Manager of the Learning Development and Management Office at SEAMEO-INNOTECH, shared insights into the role of adaptive learning technologies in supporting quality assurance.

Plenary Session 5: Updates on AACCUP Accreditation Systems and Processes – Dr. Milabel E. Ho, Executive Director of AACCUP, provided valuable updates on the accreditation systems and processes shaping the future of higher education.

Plenary Session 6: Engaging Stakeholders in QA Initiatives – Delivered by CHED Commissioner Hon. Shirley C. Agrupis, this session underscored the importance of engaging various stakeholders in driving effective quality assurance initiatives.

On the final day of the conference, the presentation of awards added a celebratory note to the event. Among the awardees was Dr. Maribel S. Tizo of USTP Claveria, who was honored with the prestigious Manuel T. Corpus Outstanding Accreditor Award, recognizing her exceptional contributions to the accreditation process. Dr. Tizo was among the distinguished recipients from SUCs across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The 38th AACCUP Annual National Conference and General Assembly proved to be an invaluable platform for sharing best practices, fostering collaboration, and reaffirming the commitment to continuous improvement in quality assurance across higher education institutions in the Philippines.
