USTP Claveria secures DOST-PCHRD research project funding

On August 30, 2023, the research project titled “Utilization of Philippine White Corn Grits as Staple for Improved Nutrition, Disease Prevention and Management in Claveria, Misamis Oriental” secured funding of Php 20,164,000 from the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCHRD).

This funding will support the research activities and initiatives by Dr. Nelda R. Gonzaga and her team at the USTP Claveria campus. The project aims to investigate the potential benefits of incorporating white corn grits as a staple food in promoting better health, preventing diseases, and managing metabolic syndrome in the Claveria region of Misamis Oriental.

A signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was participated by the DOST Region X staff, the USTP Claveria officials, the project team members, and other collaborators involved in the project, including the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), the University of the Philippines Manila, and the Municipal Health Office of Claveria.
