The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Claveria, Misamis Oriental (USTP Claveria) made a significant leap in 2024 by establishing its extension campus in Barangay Miarayon, Talakag, Bukidnon. This move further strengthens the university’s commitment to providing quality education, particularly in agriculture, with over 64 students currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Major in Crop Science program.

The extension has recently completed the construction of two new classrooms, which are now ready for use and awaiting an official turnover ceremony. These new facilities are expected to enhance the learning experience, providing students with a more conducive and modern environment to pursue their studies.

Looking ahead, the extension is set to train a new generation of agricultural professionals, with plans to continue supporting the agricultural sector in Talakag and surrounding areas. The campus is crucial in equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to improve local farming practices and contribute to the region’s agricultural development.

Congressman Joeman Alba has been recognized for his unwavering support of education in the First District of Bukidnon. His efforts have been key in advancing the region’s educational landscape. USTP Claveria officials, led by Chancellor Dr. Renato Arazo, have also been praised for their vision and dedication in making the Talakag and Sumilao extensions a reality.
The support from local officials, including Mayor Vergito Factura and the LGU Talakag Council, has been instrumental in the success of the project. Their contributions have helped ensure that quality education is more accessible to the people of Talakag and surrounding communities.
