The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Claveria, Misamis Oriental (USTP Claveria) warmly welcomed its visiting professor from Ethiopia during a courtesy call held at the Office of the Chancellor on December 4, 2025. Chancellor Dr. Renato O. Arazo personally received Dr. Agr. Beira H. Meressa, Associate Professor of Nematology from Jimma University, marking a significant milestone in the university’s continuing efforts to foster international academic collaboration.

During the brief meeting, Chancellor Arazo expressed his gratitude for Dr. Meressa’s presence and his contribution to advancing scientific discourse in plant health and sustainable agriculture. He emphasized the importance of global partnerships in strengthening research and instructional capabilities across the USTP system.

Dr. Meressa, in return, conveyed his appreciation for the warm hospitality and underscored his commitment to sharing knowledge and building collaborative research opportunities, particularly in the areas of plant nematology and plant defense mechanisms.

The courtesy call set a positive tone for the day’s activities, which included Dr. Meressa’s lecture, “Beneath the Surface: Plant Defense and Growth in Response to Nematode Infection,” attended by faculty, researchers, and agriculture students.

The engagement reflects USTP Claveria’s growing dedication to expanding its international linkages and providing its academic community with access to global expertise.
