USTP conducts stakeholders forum for proposed BSMLS program

Taking a significant step toward the establishment of the Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology (BSMLS/MT) program, the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), through the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Medical and Allied Health Programs (OVCMAHP), conducted a stakeholders forum on February 2, 2026, at the College of Medicine (COM) Audio-Visual Room.

The forum aimed to gather insights, recommendations, and industry perspectives to ensure that the proposed program is relevant, responsive, and aligned with current healthcare needs and professional standards.

The activity was led by Dr. Mitchel Dennis B. Gonzales, Vice Chancellor for Medical and Allied Health Programs of USTP Cagayan de Oro, and was attended by USTP officials, including the deans of the College of Medicine and the College of Nursing. Representatives from various public and private institutions also participated, including the Department of Health (DOH), Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC), J.R. Borja General Hospital (JRBGH), Maria Reyna–Xavier University Hospital, Polymedic General Hospital, Philippine Red Cross, Ace Medical Center, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), and the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists, Inc. (PAMET).

Dr. Arlita Amapola Minguez, Officer-in-Charge Regional Director of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region X, also joined the forum via Zoom.

Discussions during the forum focused on the proposed program’s vision, mission, core values, program outcomes, and curriculum or prospectus.

The stakeholders forum marks the initial step in establishing the BSMLS/MT program at USTP, laying the groundwork for its development through sustained collaboration, refinement, and alignment with industry and healthcare standards.
