USTP converses waste recycling with Japanese industry leaders

On February 20, 2023, three guests from Japan visited the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) campuses in Cagayan de Oro and Claveria, Misamis Oriental.

Masaki Omata of Gasus Co., Ltd.; Masahiro Hirai of Hitachi Transport Co., Ltd.; and Masahide Tachi of Unexplored Co., Ltd. presented their proposal on waste recycling — a possible partnership with the university’s academe, research, development, and extension programs — and how it can be useful in their business.

Present during the visit were key university officials and a representative from the Oro Trade and Investment Promotion Center (TIPC) of Cagayan de Oro, Ms. Imma Rae D. Gatuslao.

In September 2022, the Japanese representatives also visited Cagayan de Oro, particularly the sanitary landfill at Barangay Pagalungan, to explore its solid and industrial waste management systems.
As a higher education institution that continues to strive to become nationally recognized as a science and technology university, the USTP System engages in various discussions with industries to develop and implement strategies for fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
