USTP faculty wins 1st Place at 8th RHRC 2025 for innovative study on Marang’s antidiabetic potential

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) continues to advance research excellence as Mr. Nesteve John Agosto, faculty member of the Department of Chemistry at USTP Cagayan de Oro and Center Head for Natural Products Research, won 1st Place in the Research Poster Competition (Professional Category) during the 8th Regional Health Research Conference (RHRC) held on October 7–9, 2025, at Misamis University, Ozamiz City.

Mr. Agosto presented his study titled “From Seeds to Sugar Control: Exploring the Antidiabetic Activity of Artocarpus odoratissimus (Marang) Seed Ethanolic Extract via In Vitro Alpha-Amylase and Yeast Cell Glucose Uptake.” The research directly aligns with this year’s conference theme, “Regional Health Research in Action: Driving Innovation, Impact, and Inclusive Growth,” which underscores the role of research in addressing pressing health challenges through innovation, collaboration, and community impact.

The conference gathered health professionals, policymakers, academicians, representatives from local government units, and media organizations from across the country to exchange insights and strengthen partnerships in public health research and development.

Mr. Agosto’s recognition brings pride to USTP as it reflects the University’s strong commitment to research and innovation in the health and medical sciences contributing to improved healthcare access, enhanced public health outcomes, and the pursuit of a sustainable future.
