The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Jasaan (USTP Jasaan) officially opened its Women’s Month Celebration through the kick-off activity, “Stride for Equality,” during the Monday Convocation Program on March 2, 2026, at the USTP Jasaan Covered Court.
Anchored on the theme “We for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society,” the event emphasized unity, shared responsibility, and empowerment.
The program opened with a message from Dr. Ruel S. Salvador, Acting Campus Director of USTP Jasaan, who highlighted the vital role of women in shaping families, institutions, and communities. He emphasized that recognizing women’s contributions and ensuring equal opportunities are essential to building a more just and progressive community.
This was followed by a cultural presentation from the USTP Folk Dance Troupe, showcasing women’s identity and creativity.
An inspirational message was delivered by Ms. Janette Ann Mabayo, faculty from the General Education Unit of USTP Jasaan, who emphasized the collective nature of the advocacy for gender equality. “The word WE reminds us that gender equality is not a women’s issue alone—it is a shared responsibility. It is a collective movement. It is about all of us,” she shared, resonating strongly with students, faculty, and staff.
Key activities for the month were also announced, including wearing purple every Wednesday as a symbol of support for women’s empowerment; the Fun Run: Run the World 2026: She Leads, She Runs; symposia on women’s mental health, safe spaces, VAWC, and HIV awareness; as well as creative advocacy contests and community extension programs such as Tech for HER and inclusive boatbuilding initiatives.
The celebration will conclude with a Culmination Program and Awarding Ceremony recognizing individuals and groups who contributed to the success of the month-long activities.
The Women’s Month Celebration is led by Ms. Kareen Claire L. Timario, USTP Jasaan’s Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Person. The celebration reaffirms the University’s commitment to gender equality and an inclusive society.
