The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Jasaan (USTP Jasaan) launches two exhibits to culminate the 1st Semester of AY 2024 -2025. Organized by the members of the faculty under the General Education Unit, the exhibits feature works of students from the different programs.
Flora et Forma: Arts, Gender, and Environmental Science
Flora et Forma showcased outputs from students under the Art Appreciation, Reading and Visual Arts, Environmental Science, and Gender and Society on December 5, 2024. This event served as a multidisciplinary event, bringing together the fields of arts, environmental science, and social awareness.

The exhibit explored local native trees through citizen science, showcasing the students’ contributions to environmental research. Appreciation of these trees contributes to conservation efforts in maintaining biodiversity in the barangays of Jasaan and Claveria.
Art Appreciation students raised awareness of some crucial societal issues in Jasaan. Showcases include sculptures, portraits, and documentaries. Students also presented the results of their short research on gender and societal issues. Through art, students were able to raise awareness about crucial topics such as environmental conservation and gender equality.
The Flora et Forma exhibit also focused on the ongoing 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) in the Philippines, aligning with the national push for equality and justice. By examining societal issues through a gendered lens, students emphasized the importance of creating inclusive spaces where every individual is seen, heard, and valued.
Flora represents nature and the interconnectedness of life, and “Forma”, symbolizes art’s creative power in shaping shared experiences. Together, they reflected the event’s central theme—celebrating the synergy between nature, creativity, and social awareness. The exhibit was organized by instructors Angelito Nambatac Jr. and Lea May Caburatan.
Attendees were invited to reflect on the rich culture and history of Jasaan, a community known for its resilience and vitality. The students’ work offered insights into environmental and social challenges and also sparked a conversation about the collective responsibility to build a better future.
Mathematics and Science Performance Innovative Tasks
The Mathematics and Science classes also presented their innovative projects, showcasing their learning through interactive and creative applications on December 13, 2024. The event was led by Sean Honey Jane Odal and Glenda Colalo, Mathematics and Physics Instructors.
Under the theme “Innovating Minds: Strengthening Algebra and Mechanics Concepts Through Creative Play and Application,” the students presented engaging exhibits that demonstrated their understanding of mathematical and scientific concepts.
The Mathematics Performance Innovative Task (PIT) featured the exhibit “Algebra Adventure: Designing an Educational Game”. Students integrated algebraic concepts into fun, interactive games that made learning both engaging and educational.

Meanwhile, the Science PIT presented “Self-Rotating Plan: Applications of Mechanical Energy”, where students demonstrated their innovative projects on the principles of mechanical energy, showcasing how theoretical knowledge can be applied in real-world scenarios.
These innovative exhibits provided a glimpse into the student’s ability to think critically and creatively, applying their academic knowledge in exciting and interactive ways.
Creativity and Beyond
The exhibits highlighted USTP Jasaan’s commitment to making a lasting impact on the community through collective action and community involvement. It provided a platform for students to solve world problems starting within their communities. Through projects like Flora et Forma and the Science and Math exhibits, USTP Jasaan is nurturing a generation of students who are not only academically capable but also socially responsible, ready to make a positive impact on the world around them.

This event reflects the university’s commitment to fostering critical thinking, creativity, and advocacy for sustainability and equality.
