The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) renewed its partnership with the Mindanao-Japan Science and Technology Platform (MJ-STeP) through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on June 9, 2025, paving the way for faculty and graduate students to pursue advanced degrees in Japan.

The partnership was established in 2021 and renewed every three years. Under the agreement, the MJ-STeP will grant one scholarship annually to a qualified USTP faculty member or graduate student. Priority is given to fields that support the sustainable development of Mindanao’s key industries, including agribusiness, fisheries, pharmaceuticals and medical sciences, manufacturing, and information and communications technology.

USTP System President Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II and MJ-STeP President Yoshiaki Miwa led the ceremonial signing, reaffirming the strong academic partnership and their shared commitment to innovation and collaborative excellence between USTP and MJ-STeP.
