The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta) successfully conducted a two-day Strategic Planning and In-House Research Capability Training on December 4–5, 2025, at USTP Oroquita Mock Hotel. The activity aimed to strengthen the campus research culture, enhance faculty expertise in research proposal development, and align academic initiatives with both institutional and national research priorities.
The training featured expert speakers, including Dr. Mirian P. Aman, Dean of the College of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation of the Mindanao State University (MSU) Main Campus – Marawi City; Mr. Steve I. Embang, Research Director of Northwestern Mindanao State College of Science and Technology (NMSCST) – Tangub City; and Dr. Ray Butch Mahinay, Vice President for Extension and Social Development Services of City College of Cagayan de Oro.
Dr. Aman delivered foundational sessions, Mr. Embang discussed advanced topics in research writing, including literature review writing, methodology, and research ethics, and Dr. Mahinay focused on data gathering, analysis, interpretation, and referencing.
Under the guidance of Dr. Mahinay, Mr. Embang, and Ms. Jessica Hornejas, the Campus Research Coordinator, a high-impact proposal workshop was successfully conducted. Participants worked on refining their research titles, methodological approaches, and frameworks of reference. Through small group supervision, faculty members received targeted feedback on their research proposals.
At the end of the workshop, participants presented their preliminary research outputs for critique, ensuring that their proposals met institutional standards. Over the course of two days, the training effectively equipped faculty members with new skills for conducting research that aligns with both institutional and national priorities. Practical strategies for research design, data collection, and analysis were emphasized throughout the workshop. This activity reflects the campus’s commitment to building a strong, innovative, and research-driven academic community.
