The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta), through its Food Processing and Technology Department, teamed up with Katipunan Banking Corporation for an extension training program on Tech Transfer Skills in Food Processing for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) last September 25, 2025, at the Katipunan Banking Corporation Office, Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental.

The workshop introduced participants to food preservation techniques and guided them through real-life applications such as product development, pricing, and safety compliance. A crowd favorite was the tocino-making demo, where attendees learned how to balance taste, quality, and food safety.

The program opened with a warm message from Engr. Mitchie M. Roa, Department Head of the Food Processing Technology Program. Faculty members then took turns leading the sessions: Ms. Monique Emilyn Ratunil shared practical tips on product pricing, Ms. Ann Marie M. Chua discussed food preservation and facilitated the hands-on activity, while Chef Florimel B. Mante stressed the importance of proper food safety and sanitation.

Also present were fourth-year Food Processing and Technology students, who helped run the sessions smoothly—from assisting during demonstrations to recording the event. Their involvement not only supported the MSMEs but also gave them valuable experience beyond the classroom.

The day wrapped up with a short recognition ceremony, where participants and speakers received certificates of appreciation. A representative from Katipunan Banking Corporation closed the event by thanking USTP for the partnership and highlighting how programs like this strengthen MSMEs and their role in the community.

Through initiatives like this, USTP Oroquieta continues to show its commitment to helping small businesses grow and making food innovation more accessible to local entrepreneurs.
