The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta), through its Department of Information Technology (DIT), proudly held two significant academic events: the Capstone Proposal Oral Defense from May 2 to 9, 2025, and the Tech Exhibit 2025 on May 16, 2025. Both events aimed to nurture innovation, foster collaboration with the industry, and prepare students for real-world technological challenges. These events were held at the Covered Court, USTP Oroquieta.

The Capstone Proposal Oral Defense provided third-year Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) students with the opportunity to present their project concepts to a panel of faculty experts. The topics covered a wide range, including smart transportation, environmental monitoring, public health, and digital education platforms. These proposals demonstrated both technical creativity and social awareness. Faculty advisers played a crucial role in mentoring each team, ensuring that their solutions were not only technically viable but also meaningful in addressing the needs of the community.

Moreover, the Tech Exhibit 2025, themed “Innovating the Future, Empowering the Nation,” showcased over 50 capstone projects developed in collaboration with local government units, schools, and private organizations. These partnerships provided students with hands-on experiences while addressing real client needs. The exhibit also served as a platform for public feedback, evaluation, and recognition of exceptional work, highlighting the strong connections between industry and academia.

The top honorees were recognized for their outstanding tech innovations with the following teams:

  • SMASHERS team

The diversity and quality of the projects on display highlighted the students’ dedication in using technology to enhance lives, tackle societal issues, and improve essential services. Developed over several months of research, consultation, and collaboration with local clients, these capstone projects showcased not only technical skills but also a sense of social responsibility and purpose.

The exhibit further emphasized USTP Oroquieta’s commitment to fostering strong connections between industry and academia, with clients and stakeholders actively involved in the evaluation and mentorship of the projects.
