The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta) marked another important milestone in history as its Food Laboratory recently passed the on-site evaluation and was recognized as a TESDA-Compliant Assessment Center last December 12, 2025, at the USTP Oroquieta Food Laboratory. This achievement underscores the commitment and shared effort of the campus administration and the Department of Food Processing and Technology in uplifting the campus’s training and assessment capabilities, accessible not only for the students but also for the entire province of Misamis Occidental and neighboring provinces.

TESDA Regional Director Mr. Romel Natad and Ms. Gemma C. Lee led a team of professional technology experts in making the assessment. Their comprehensive on-site inspection of the laboratory covered the laboratory’s overall readiness, focusing on safety protocols, equipment completeness, facility layout, and adherence to TESDA accreditation standards. The grant of the certification affirmed the laboratory’s capability to provide industry-aligned and dependable competency assessment, which marked a major advancement for the USTP Oroquieta Department of Food Processing and Technology as the flagship program of the campus.

This accreditation aligns with the university’s mission of providing high-quality education that responds to industry needs and offering practical training programs. Since the Food Laboratory is now accredited, students, professionals, and community members throughout Misamis Occidental will achieve easier access to national certifications, competency-based assessments, and specialized skills development opportunities.  This milestone not only underscores the importance of collaboration but also further establishes USTP Oroquieta as a regional hub for innovation in the field of food processing and technology with nationwide impacts that extend beyond its borders to Northern Mindanao.
