USTP Oroquieta holds Tech Ignite 2025: A Celebration of Innovation and Leadership

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta) hosted Tech Ignite 2025, a two-day event that brought together BSIT students to celebrate innovation, competition, and teamwork. The Department of Information Technology (DIT) at USTP Oroquieta, in collaboration with the Society of Information Technology Enthusiasts (SITE) – USTP Oroquieta, organized the event. Attendees participated in a variety of activities, including e-sports, hackathons, traditional Filipino games, and a thrilling challenge inspired by Squid Game. The event took place on April 23–24, 2025, at the university.
Tech Ignite 2025 focused on enhancing teamwork, communication, and technical skills through an inclusive format. Students were organized into four teams: Circle (Red), Square (Blue), Triangle (Purple), and Star (Yellow), with members from different sections. The teams competed in various categories, including academic challenges like cabling and poster-making, as well as non-academic contests such as singing and mobile gaming tournaments. Points were awarded based on each team’s performance.
In an exciting finale, the Star Team (Yellow), led by Mr. Hanes A. Ongos, captured the Overall Champion title with their impressive all-around performance. Triangle (Purple), headed by Mr. Jo Roxan Borata, secured 2nd Runner-Up, while Circle (Red), under Mr. Ginbert Fernandez, took home the 1st Runner-Up position. The success of the event was largely due to the tireless efforts of the SITE Executive Officers, faculty advisers, and the organizing committee, which was led by LJ Mae Amores, Evan John Dago-oc, and overall chairman Ray An Quiñon.
More than just a competition, Tech Ignite 2025 showcased USTP Oroquieta’s commitment to nurturing future IT leaders. By promoting a spirit of innovation, collaboration, and leadership, the event had a lasting impact on participants, reinforcing values that will guide them in their academic and professional journeys.
