The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta) successfully participated in a five-day Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH-SO2) Training Course on February 16–20, 2026, at Polymedic Medical Plaza, Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City. The activity aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge and practical skills to promote safer and healthier workplaces.

Representing USTP Oroquieta were Mr. Judie Agan, Planning Officer of USTP Oroquieta, and Regin P. Talo, NSTP Instructor. The training was designed to enhance participants’ understanding of workplace safety and health in accordance with Republic Act No. 11058, also known as the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Law, and the guidelines of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). The program emphasized the importance of implementing effective safety practices and strengthening occupational safety programs across various institutions.

Throughout the five-day course, participants engaged in a comprehensive learning experience covering key topics such as the BOSH framework, the significance of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), workplace risk assessment, and hazard identification. The sessions also addressed health hazards, risk evaluation, medical surveillance, development of control measures, accident causation and investigation, and effective communication of OSH policies and procedures.

To ensure practical application of concepts, the training incorporated lectures, workshops, case analyses, and role-playing activities. These interactive sessions allowed participants to develop their competence in identifying workplace hazards, assessing and controlling risks, conducting accident investigations, and addressing occupational safety and health concerns within their respective workplaces.

The successful participation in the training also reflects the continuing commitment of the campus to professional development, workplace safety advocacy, and community engagement. By actively supporting capacity-building initiatives such as the BOSH training, USTP Oroquieta reinforces its role in promoting safe and healthy working environments not only within the university but also among partner institutions and communities. Such initiatives demonstrate the university’s dedication to advancing safety standards, strengthening institutional partnerships, and contributing to the overall well-being and productivity of the workforce.
