The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta) actively participated in the First Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) organized by the campus Disaster Risk Reduction Management Team. This initiative aimed to bolster disaster preparedness and resilience among the university community on March 13, 2025.

The drill commenced with the sounding of the siren, signaling students, faculty, and staff to execute the standard “duck, cover, and hold” techniques—an essential safety practice during earthquakes. Following this, participants systematically evacuated to pre-assigned safe zones on campus, showcasing the effectiveness of the university’s emergency response protocols.

This exercise underscored USTP Oroquieta’s dedication to fostering a culture of safety and preparedness. By simulating real-world scenarios, the drill not only tested the campus’s readiness for seismic emergencies but also educated its constituents on the importance of proactive disaster management. Through this active participation, USTP Oroquieta demonstrated a strong commitment to safeguarding the welfare of its academic community.
