The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta) hosted a meeting with officials from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Misamis Occidental on March 25, 2025, to discuss its application for accreditation as an assessment center. This marks a significant step forward in the campus’s efforts to enhance its role as a hub for technical education and skills certification.

Led by TESDA Provincial Director Noralaine Rasul and accompanied by Supervising Specialist Annabel B. Avila, the visit focused on evaluating USTP Oroquieta’s facilities, ensuring compliance with TESDA’s rigorous standards, and exploring opportunities for collaboration. During the visit, the officials expressed optimism about the campus’s potential as a future assessment center for the region.

This partnership with USTP Oroquieta aligns perfectly with TESDA’s mission to expand access to quality technical education and skills certification. We are thrilled about the possibilities this collaboration brings for workforce readiness in Misamis Occidental,” said Director Rasul.

USTP Oroquieta officials emphasized their readiness to align technical programs with TESDA standards and to contribute actively to the region’s economic growth. The proposed assessment center is envisioned to deliver industry-relevant evaluations, offering students and professionals in Northern Mindanao access to nationally recognized certifications.

As part of the initial visit, TESDA conducted a detailed inspection of USTP Oroquieta’s training facilities and laboratories to ensure they meet accreditation requirements. Discussions also included plans for future collaboration, such as faculty training, scholarship programs, and community-based skills development initiatives.

This initiative reflects USTP Oroquieta’s commitment to fostering a highly skilled workforce and underscores its role as a key player in the region’s technical education ecosystem. Through this partnership, USTP Oroquieta is poised to become a cornerstone in the certification of technical and vocational competencies—empowering communities and enhancing employability in Misamis Occidental and beyond.
