The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta), in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross Misamis Occidental – Oroquieta Chapter, conducted a two-day Emergency First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) training held on February 19–20, 2026, at the Student Center, USTP Oroquieta. The training gathered Red Cross Youth (RCY) members from various academic programs, aiming to equip participants with essential life-saving skills while strengthening leadership, discipline, and preparedness for emergency situations within the campus and the wider community.

Philippine Red Cross CSR-Service Instructor Mr. Rejie Ryan A. Patoy led the comprehensive sessions, combining lectures, demonstrations, group discussions, and hands-on practical exercises. Mr. Patoy trained the USTP Oroquieta Red Cross Youth members.

The two-day program provided participants with extensive training on emergency first aid procedures, bandaging, splinting, proper lifting and carrying techniques, and the fundamentals of Basic Life Support. The simulated emergency scenarios further enhanced their confidence and competence, with active participation and teamwork evident in every session.

The completion of the training enhanced the participants’ capabilities in emergency response and first aid, enabling them to respond effectively during medical emergencies. Beyond learning technical skills, the program fostered leadership, responsibility, and unity among the youth volunteers. These outcomes significantly contribute to improved campus safety and preparedness, as trained RCY members are now better equipped to provide immediate assistance and support when emergencies arise on campus and in the community.

This initiative strongly supports USTP Oroquieta’s mission of developing globally competitive and socially responsible graduates through relevant instruction, research, and extension. By empowering students with life-saving competencies and a spirit of volunteerism, the training embodies the University’s core values of service, leadership, integrity, and excellence. Moreover, it reinforces the campus vision of becoming a proactive and community-engaged institution, as trained Red Cross Youth members now serve as vital partners in promoting safety, resilience, and humanitarian action within and beyond the University.
