USTP Oroquieta strengthens global academic ties at British council EDGE conference 2025

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta) strengthenAed its internationalization efforts in partnership with The Global Engagement and Management Office (GEM) and the International Affairs Office (IAO) sent Ms. Nadeth Leopoldo and Ms Marevel Caburnay as official delegates to the EDGE Conference 2025, organized by the British Council. The event was held on November 24, 2025, at the Acacia Hotel, Davao City, with the theme “Addressing the gaps and creating opportunities for English and digital literacy in Mindanao.” It aimed to equip English learners with English language proficiency, digital literacy, and social skills.
The conference brought together education leaders, policymakers, and development partners to present the British Council’s initiatives aimed at bridging gaps in education and to discuss innovative strategies for enhancing digital competencies in Mindanao, particularly for marginalized children. Ms. Leopoldo and Ms. Caburnay actively participated in plenary sessions and panel discussions with experts in the field, contributing to the shaping of the EDGE initiative and promoting inclusive growth in Mindanao.
This opportunity provided USTP with valuable insights for the development of its global program, including faculty mobility, faculty development, and future collaborations. Furthermore, it reinforced the university’s commitment to expanding international connections and fostering collaboration with global partners. Through the knowledge acquired from the conference, USTP aims to support initiatives that empower the educational landscape of Mindanao, particularly in areas such as language learning, digital literacy, and innovative teaching methods.
