USTP Oroquieta strengthens Innovation & Technology through 2025 IT Research Colloquium

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (USTP Oroquieta) took the spotlight as it hosted the 2025 IT Research Colloquium: Digital Solutions Summit, organized by the Department of Information Technology (DIT). The event, held on campus on April 24, 2025, was a celebration of student innovation and practical problem-solving in the digital era.

The summit brought together student researchers, faculty members, and industry professionals with a shared mission: to harness the power of technology for community-centered solutions. It featured capstone project exhibits and poster presentations by BS Information Technology students, highlighting real-world applications in public service, education, business, and agriculture.

A distinguished panel of judges evaluated the projects based on innovation, relevance, technical design, and potential impact. The panel included:

  • Mr. Earl Peter J. Gangoso, Program Head, BS Computer Science, La Salle University Ozamiz
  • Engr. Kenneth Asuncion, Provincial Officer, DICT 10 Misamis Occidental
  • Prof. Carin Z. Cabatingan, Dean, Institute of Computer Studies, Tangub City Global College

Their collective expertise was instrumental in recognizing the following outstanding projects.

  • Best Poster Presentation:
    • PEOSIMS: Provincial Engineer’s Office Supplies Inventory Management System
    • Microniche Sales and Supply Management System with Customer Service Integration
  • Best in Visual Design:
    • EDUQUEST: A Learning Enhancement and Quiz Management Platform
    • BLOCK-LOGIC: A Block-Based Programming Game for Learning Basic Programming Concepts
  • Most Innovative Project:
    • VESA: Mobile-Based Image Recognition for Automated Crop Health Assessment in Vegetable Farming
    • BLOCK-LOGIC (earning a second award for its creativity in education technology)
  • Most Promising Tech Solution:
    • LSSOMS: Lucrecia Sanchez Store Online Marketing System
    • MOCALL: An Automated Incident Management System for Barangay Mobod, Canubay, and Lower Loboc, Oroquieta City

The IT Research Colloquium serves as a launchpad for future IT professionals to experiment, innovate, and make a real-world impact. As USTP Oroquieta continues to cultivate innovation through education, the 2025 colloquium stands as a testament to what can happen when students are empowered to dream, design, and deliver.
