Faculty researchers from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Panaon, Misamis Occidental (USTP Panaon), participated in the Harmonized Concept Proposal Writeshop on March 3, 2026, held via Zoom. The event guided researchers in developing responsive, competitive, and fundable proposals aligned with the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) Harmonized National Research and Development Agenda (HNRDA).
Representing USTP Panaon were Christopher R. Balaba, Marjune T. Bonilla, Jenny M. Dela Cruz, Luiz G. Cadiz II, Ayth M. Paragoso, Marjho Mae S. Cardoza, Liza H. Calvis, Shann Niel Yurong, Mon Bernard Paradela, and Jan James Aranas. Their involvement demonstrates the campus’s commitment to enhancing its research culture and advancing innovative solutions to community and national challenges.
In the morning session, representatives from DOST research councils presented priority research areas, proposal timelines, and submission requirements. Speakers included Ms. Ma. Josette B. San Luis (DOST–PCAARRD), Engr. Johanna Gonzales (DOST–PCIEERD) and Mr. Jules Celebrado (DOST–PCHRD). They highlighted funding opportunities in health, energy, emerging technologies, agriculture, aquatic resources, and natural resources.
In the afternoon, participants joined breakout sessions aligned with their research interests under the regional consortia NorMinCoHRD, NorMinCIEERD, and NOMCAARRD. These sessions offered practical guidance on writing competitive, fundable proposals, including identifying research problems clearly, aligning proposals with national priorities, and completing DOST proposal forms correctly.
An open forum followed, allowing participants to raise questions and clarify technical aspects of proposal development and submission.
Overall, the writeshop provided USTP Panaon faculty with valuable insights and strategies for developing high-quality research proposals. This initiative is expected to help the campus produce impactful research that addresses community needs and enhances the university’s research visibility nationally and globally.
