USTP Panaon IT students participate in Tech Talk 2026

Information Technology students from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Panaon, Misamis Occidental (USTP Panaon), participated in an informative Tech Talk titled “Advancing Research and Development in IoT for Smart Environment: Innovations and Future Directions” on March 9, 2026, at the USTP Panaon IT Ground.
The activity featured Engr. Mark Anthony V. Melendres, PECE, ACPE, AE, CCNP, CCNP-S, JNCIAx5, ITIL, MSAE, MSECE, as the guest speaker, aimed to deepen students’ understanding of the Internet of Things (IoT) and its role in developing smart and sustainable environments, while highlighting current innovations and future directions in research and development.
During the session, Engr. Melendres discussed the growing importance of IoT in enabling efficient monitoring, automation, and data-driven decision-making. Through interconnected devices, sensors, and intelligent systems, IoT enhances environmental management, urban systems, and everyday living.
The talk also explored navigating the evolving landscape of telecommunications and ICT infrastructure for interconnectivity. He emphasized that advancements in telecommunications and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure are crucial in supporting modern digital communication. Reliable and scalable networks enable seamless connectivity among devices, organizations, and communities, facilitating digital transformation across sectors.
Another key topic discussed was securing network infrastructure as part of business continuity. Engr. Melendres underscored the importance of cybersecurity in protecting digital systems and sensitive information. He highlighted that implementing strong security measures, continuous monitoring, and proactive risk management strategies are essential in maintaining stable operations and preventing disruptions caused by cyber threats.
Throughout the session, Engr. Melendres shared practical insights and industry experiences that inspired students to further develop their technical competencies in networking, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies. The Tech Talk provided a meaningful learning opportunity for IT students of USTP Panaon, equipping them with a broader understanding of current technological developments and motivating them to prepare for future careers in the IT and telecommunications industries.
