The key stakeholders, environmental leaders, and representatives from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) convened at the Municipal Auditorium of LGU Plaridel in Misamis Occidental for the 1st Quarter Meeting of the Management Board for the Danao Bay Marine Protected Area Network (DB-MPAN). on March 5, 2026. The presence of USTP Panaon highlighted the collaboration between academic expertise and local policy implementers.

The meeting was presided over by Hon. Mayor Gadwin E. Handumon of Plaridel, who, in his role as DB-MPAN Chairman, led discussions on critical strategies to enhance the conservation and governance of this important marine resource in the region. Two key initiatives were discussed during the meeting: the first was a performance assessment using the NEAT tool to evaluate governance effectiveness and identify areas for improvement in managing the marine protected area network. The second initiative focused on harmonizing fishery and environmental ordinances for the municipalities of Plaridel and Baliangao, which together comprise the Danao Bay.

As a follow-up to the discussions, all member agencies were encouraged to prepare a list of activities or projects to be undertaken within the fiscal year 2026 by the time of the 2nd Quarter Board Meeting. This is part of their commitment to achieving the targets set by the management board and contributing to the effective management of the Danao Bay Marine Protected Areas. Dr. Leny Q. Anasco, Acting Campus Director, and Ms. Marjho Mae S. Cardoza represented USTP Panaon during the meeting.
