The Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLED) students, through the Future Educators’ Guild (FEG) of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines in Panaon, Misamis Occidental (USTP Panaon), participated in a meaningful and informative orientation on Anti-Hazing Law, Dangerous Drugs, and Responsible Driving on February 11, 2026, at the Training Center of USTP Panaon. The activity was conducted by PEMS Mari Grace G. Pasco, WCPD PNCO of the Panaon Municipal Police Station.
The session began with a comprehensive discussion on anti-hazing, held in celebration of National Hazing Prevention Week, which reinforced the University’s commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive academic environment. PEMS Pasco provided a thorough overview of the salient provisions of the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018 (Republic Act No. 11053), emphasizing that all forms of hazing resulting in physical or psychological harm, humiliation, or degradation are strictly prohibited, regardless of the consent of the individual involved.
It was also explained that the expanded accountability under the law holds not only direct participants criminally liable but also organization officers, members who planned or allowed the hazing, and even school officials or faculty who fail to take preventive action. The discussion also covered the severe graduated penalties imposed by the Act.
BTLED students were encouraged to uphold dignity, mutual respect, and a zero-tolerance policy for any form of hazing or violence within the campus.
Following the anti-hazing discussion, the session provided BTLED students with essential knowledge about the harmful effects and legal consequences of illegal drug use. PEMS Pasco emphasized the importance of making responsible life choices and understanding the serious impact of substance abuse on individuals, families, and the community.
Additionally, the orientation emphasized the importance of safe and defensive driving practices. Students were reminded to follow traffic laws, prioritize road safety, and practice discipline while driving to prevent accidents and protect lives.
Through this initiative, USTP Panaon with the help of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Local Government Unit (LGU) continues to promote awareness, discipline, and social responsibility among students, ensuring a secure and supportive learning environment for all.
